I noticed in the description of the dual sport rides that the trails aren't suitable for big adventure bikes. No question the BMW R1200GS Adventure is a big bike. But what about small adventure bikes? Specifically the BMW F800GS. I realize the rider is a significant factor. I've got 38 years of riding experience and a few years of motocross behind me. Sure the MX days were a long time ago. And experience can't negate the physics of a 400 pound monster bouncing along the trails and slogging through the mud. But still, I'm interested enough to ask what may be considered a silly question.

And related, how about the hare scrambles and enduros listed on the MMC page here? It's not that I have delusions of being competitive, even if I was on a light weight 250/450cc race bike. But I'm concerned if I show up on an F800GS that I'd be turned away. Laughed at I can handle.  Wink I wouldn't want to devote the travel time and effort to get to an off-road ride/race and be turned away.

Any input?

Dave:  Sorry I didn't see your post before now. They are actually up there working this weekend (5/8 and 5/9) and would be glad to have help. I'm pretty sure that there will be someone up there the next couple of weekends as well.

Jeez, Hollywood - quit pulling your punches and just say how you really feel... Cheesy

First off - Brian Terry deserves a lot of credit for getting this venue set up with Jason. It is a good venue. It was really nice that the club members did not have to travel for hours to get there. Things may need to be tweaked, but we definitely do not want to throw the baby out with the bath water, here. If it needs fixing, fix it - don't just toss it.

I was playing with video for most of the race, and I saw a big variety of attitudes from the riders as the race went on. From what I saw, I'd say you're correct that some of the B and most all of the C folks felt like they got thrown in a grinder. Since I would probably have been one of the slowest riders out there, I'm certain I would have felt the same way had I raced it. It did appear that the faster guys were having a good time. I walked most of the course after the race, and I was a bit surprised at how much the course had changed over the two hours - there were some spots that I never would have figured would turn into obstacles, but they did.

It likely would have helped to run the C class and the Vintage together, for one hour, with a by-pass or two around some of the more difficult stuff, so they could actually turn some laps. Of course, then no one could ride both Vintage and C, but I think if you asked the two Vintage riders in attendance (John Montgomery and Jorge Caballero), they would probably have preferred to ride with more people. Splitting C-class out would have eased the "log jam" issues during the 2 hour race as well.

I'm not sure how to really start this but I do have to get this off my chest. The Hill Point hs will be the last H.s. I will ever go to. Now I know that the lay out of a course can be tricky but you do need to consider ALL the people who are going to ride not just the A and AA guys.

All I ever hear at meetings is "Why can't we get any more riders". Here's a clue STOP TRYING TO KILL THE B and C RIDERS!  In fact it would probably be kinder if at sign up you just took their money, beat them with a stick, and wrecked their bike. At least then we could get home early enough to get something done around the house.

I know this sounds like alot of sour grapes but I did have one pretty disapointed  kid on the ride home And the more I thought about it the madder I got. Everything I was told "hey it should be a fun ride", which for the faster guys it more than likely was, but as I met him at the truck after an hour and he just finished his first lap I had to think to myself " THIS IS THE WAY TO SUPPORT THE FUTURE OF OFF ROAD RIDING"

If anyone reads this thanks for letting me vent

Hey! Welcome to the club!

We can probably help with the learning to ride off road without killing yourself. Heck, we're all still alive.

Some of us do limp a bit, however. Grin

What's going on with the event this weekend?
Do we have enough people working the event?
Let everyone know so we can plan ahead.

From Brian Terry:

Work weekend info:
We will be laying out the course the weekend prior the event (Aug 29th & 30th). Ken and I have a D16 board meeting in the Wi Dells Saturday morning, so workers should plan on being at CMJ raceway by about 2 pm on Saturday. We will get as much done on Saturday afternoon as possible and finishing up on Sunday. If someone can only work one day, Sunday would be the best. We will be camping at CMJ, so come up Saturday night if you want, so you can get an early start on Sunday. There should be plenty of warm beer and cold food (or did I get that mixed up?) Saturday night around the bonfire. I will be getting a key from Chris for the gate as he will be running a SX that night in Hustler. Not sure how far that is from the track….we may even end up there Saturday night. Contact me with any questions.
